    No the old way of wasting billions in red tape and bureaucracy are over. When you spend nothing on building and producing and developing you will fail. I have to applaud Elon on this matter. He engineers the heck of his rocket and spacecrafts. And he tests them rigorously. That is the only way to engineer. Everything else is corruption. NASA has lost all credibility. The old companies like ULA and Boing are dead or dying.

    If someone offered me a seat to fly to the ISS, I'd jump at it. If, however, they then said it would be on this particular flight, I'd back down rather rapidly ! Hard to say which will happen first, this flight or the death of the two retired pilots from old age... Cut your losses NASA ! wait for dream chaser !!!

    By now they should have accumulated so much experience that such incidents would be prevented on a planning stage. Also, they'll try to catch BOTH the booster and the starship on the sixth flight? How? Will there be no separation? Or the ship won't go half way around the Earth and splash somewhere in Indian Ocean? BTW they have only one megazilla. Will we have to wait for the second one to be built and tested (half a year at minimum) before the sixth launch is even tried?

    What I see there is continual problems from the ring structure style of construction. They are having to transport them flat to prevent collapse, and then stack them very high. all that is slow and laborious. and difficult passage for every section. If they went to longitudinal gores, they could build them in the flat, with internal structure installed, transport stacked flat And assemble with the crane by standing up the gores, and building the gores around the end domes and prefabricated decks. And at the same time get full length longitudinals, and not have your structure full diameter butt welded every ring width. This is bad engineering. Also limits ship design shapes to round hulls. Flying logs aerodynamically, and less than pleasant spaces to live in, and no flat walls to build to, or put any thing against. Would be better with more linear construction, at least get facet like flat sides, and architectual freedom, without the continual problems wasting space and materials fitting everything to a short radius curve... Try sticking your bunk agaist that hull on decks... Gonna get a wasted space where the straight edge of bunk meets round curve of hull. And they will soon find building internals taking twice as much time as closing in the hull. Also if they discover glide ratio helps re-entry, with round hull limits, they will be stuck with 1930's era Aircraft hull styles. Cobbling wings and fins onto a tube, instead of potential blended wing shapes etc. They will be locked a hundred years behind potential start ups who realize these issues ahead of the curve. And they will have spent billions trapping themselves. I hope the Chinese are listening... Sure they could appreciate better designs and better function... And right now likely have the most experience building linear hull shapes in marine shipping... And I dont look forward to saying: "I told you so repeatedly", to SpaceX, after its too late... This is all down stream of the water tank guys. And not building proper jigs and fabrication aids. One thing leads to another, and problems multiply over time building things.

    • @gottfriedheumesser1994
      @gottfriedheumesser1994 Час назад

      'I hope the Chinese are listening...' If they follow your expertise we need not be afraid of them! Just a question: Why have submarines round hulls? Making them square would make building the interior much easier.

    I hope Space X has big improvements on the next Starship Launch. If they can get the ship into orbit and back down to earth in one piece, that will be a huge accomplishment, and will justify the development of all of these future Launch Pads, Fuel Tanker and transfer ships, etc. Until they can prove the ship works, it's all just talk. Shag Wellington knows that for sure.

    Nelson just announced that NASA is STARTING a nuclear rocket engine program. This project will not happen because NASA funding changes every two years with an election cycle for obvious reasons. The only way nuclear engines are going to progress is for the private sector make it happen and that will not happen due to the control of fissile materials. Nelson touting a NASA nuclear engine is astronautical CLICK BAIT! Like any other huge claim, I will believe it when I see it!

    The biggest problem in my opinion is that the initial problem with the ULA valve was someone had to "notice" an odd "humming" sound from the valve before the flight was scrubbed. The question that has to be asked is why was that valve not picked up routinely as faulty with the sensors on board the rocket...

    "Der Spatz in der Hand ist besser als die Taube auf dem Dach", as we say in German: The sparrow in your hand is better than the pidgeon on the roof, meaning: You better stick to the near-future realizable project you can be sure of than the futuristic dream solution you can right now only talk about. It is conspicuous how Nasa comes with that super propulsion in the exact moment SpaceX is on its track to finalize a concrete Mars plan, isn't it? Nasa had so much time to come by, but whatever the reasons, it didn't bring it to fruition. Okay, Congress and Nasa's status has always been a problem, but still, SpaceX appears to be so much more dynamic in hits dealings. I do not trust Musk, unfortunately, but at least he gets things to move.

    hate to say it - but I still half expect the Starliner mission to end at some point with a vehicular loss. They really should do another mission without humans on board to show they can fly it safely without risking human life - something they still haven't done; they're just accepting the risk because of cost and how far behind they are. Still hoping for the best for them.

    We need more than one supplier.. It’s like a car manufacturing. One supplier might have a $50,000 car, designed with latest tech, works really well, delivers everything needed and is reliable. The other supplier has a $5,000,000 car, looks like it’s from the 60’s , breaks down as soon as you leave the shop, and people say a prayer before starting the ignition. Umm.. I think we can live with one supplier..

    Boeings quality control went down the tubes after they merged with mcdonell douglas.

    • @professorg8383
      @professorg8383 11 часов назад

      Actually, it started a bit earlier when Philip Condit became CEO and went on a massive restructuring of Boeing. McDonnell Douglas had it's own financial issues leading to the merger, but MD was essentially swallowed by Boeing. Moving the headquarters to Chicago was the work of Condit. The Boeing board even tried to oust him. MD was a victim of the merger and not the cause of Boeings problems. Condit changed the corporate culture of Boeing. That is what hurt it the most along with moving from Washington. In reality, Condit was responsible for destroying two great companies. It was all driven by the rise of Airbus and the desire to eat their lunch. It failed miserably.

      You're comparing apples to zebras. Boeing can't get a capsule to fly and you're trying to bag a totally reusable booster/spacecraft combo that is the biggest on the planet. You wanna throw Atlas into the mix, then compare it to Falcon 9. How many hundreds in a row have launched and LANDED with pinpoint accuracy?
